Our
Projects

From training future policymakers at the Pakistan Civil Services Academy to evaluating global development initiatives with IFAD and the United Nations, our work integrates innovative, gender-responsive approaches to dismantle barriers and promote equity in institutions, policies, and communities.

Train the Trainer | Civil Service Academy, Pakistan | 2024 -25

Unlearning is set to collaborate with the Pakistan Civil Services Academy (CSA) to pilot a Train the Trainer initiative aimed at embedding gender-responsive training into the academy’s curriculum. As the institution responsible for shaping Pakistan's future policymakers, CSA offers a strategic entry point to foster equitable governance through mindset shifts at the highest levels of public service.

The program will equip CSA educators with Unlearning’s proven methodology, enabling them to independently challenge and dismantle cognitive biases that perpetuate inequality. By integrating this approach into the academy’s teaching practices, the initiative seeks to create a sustainable, long-term impact, ensuring that the principles of gender equity are not only taught but embedded into the foundation of Pakistan’s civil service.

Intervention Pilot  | Chief Minister’s Office, Pakistan | 2024

The pilot was carried out over the span of one month in three government colleges in Punjab. The workshops lasted two days; ensuring overnight memory consolidation. Before engaging with participants, Unlearning contextualised and trained a support team within the Special Monitoring Unit.

The pilot results demonstrated a significant impact of the intervention across all three participating institutions. Notably, the intervention was most effective among participants who exhibited the strongest gender biases in pre-testing.

The analysis, based on pre- and post-assessment responses, evaluated the suitability of both genders for traits such as leadership, assertiveness, and technical skills, showed that all significantly changed their perceptions of men and women in society, effectively overcoming gender biases.

Following the successful pilot in three government institutions in Pakistan, Unlearning has secured a Letter of Intent from the Strategic Reforms Unit, Prime Minister Secretariat, to scale the intervention across the Pakistan school system.
